Guess who is home in bed today? Yep. Mr. Hubs Trade-Off himself. While he isn't driving the big white bus yet, he feels lousy. We are all nursing him back to health in our own ways. I'm making toast, serving Gatorade, and patting his pale cheeks. Spicey will soon be eating (his) crackers in bed with him which means that the bed will soon be very crunchy. Luckily the dust buster is still sitting next to the bed from Monday when I took my turn. Cool is already questioning how long Daddy will be down because it's really going to eat into his quality "play tackle" time. Priorities, you know.
I was talking to my friend on the phone yesterday and she was telling me about how her husband had recently purchased some new computer software and equipment to improve her blogging. He's proud of her (not so) little blog and enjoys finding ways to improve it. He's also spent several long evenings writing codes to improve a site she works on. I asked if she could possibly bottle him and sell him? What a guy. This got us talking about how non-romantic things done by our spouses can feel so wonderfully romantic. It's not just flowers, candlelight, and poetry that feels like romance in the real world.
So a week or so ago I was cooking up my favorite "choose your own dinner night" meal, Cream of Wheat. I had set the lid on the pot and removed it from the heat and left the room, probably to referee. When I returned and took off the lid someone had carved the shape of a heart in the smooth top of my hot cereal and put the lid back on. It was precious. Thoughtful. Cute. Romantic. I smothered him with smooches. I felt like one lucky girl.
In a home with one breadwinner, two small kids, and not a lot of free time it's hard to get away and enjoy "romantic" time together. But if I can remember to find romance in the little things- laundry folded for me, kids tucked in while I enjoy a bubble bath, the covers turned down on my side of the bed, and a sense of humor we just might survive these hectic, difficult years and still be in love on the other side. That is certainly the goal, isn't it?

Love the post. I've got to set me up a date with my honey tonight!!
Exactly right. It's the little, day-to-day things that keep it going.
Oh! I love thhaaat! What a sweet man. Thanks so much for sharing your looooove story!
Awww, precious! What woman wouldn't melt over a heart drawn in her Cream of Wheat?
Hope he feels better soon.
Way too sweet! How creative, too!
Aaawwwwww, just too sweet!! Please let him know that we will never, never, ever let him get away. Ohhhh, that's so cute!
Please get well soon, Mr. Tradeoff. I won't bring you any more soup, though, because you probably will not be able to swallow it.
Eewww, the word verification for my comments is "bbups". Sort of sounds like a sick-to-your-stomach word......
The little things mean so much, huh? What a sweetie. You're lucky to have one another. My word verification is the longest EVER.
Awww! So sweet! Hope the hubs feels better soon.
The King..once in a while...does something really sweet too. When I found out "Crazy and Lovin' it" was giving me the Friday Flip Up award I ran in to tell him. He just looked at me and said "Honey, you're my Friday Flip Up winner everyday!"
How sweet is that?
I linked! I linked! Whoo hoo...to you-hoo (ok a little to excited, sorry!)
I really think that finding romance in the everyday is the best way to get through with the love still working for us.
It sure is :)
The little things are the best. I LOVE it when my hubby throws out the garbage or empties the dishwasher without me knowing it. I tell you I'm overjoyed cuz I don't have to do it but mostly that he took the time to do it so that I don't have to. Love it.
Your blog rocks! Keep on bloggin'
You're right! That is the goal and you are well on your way to achieving it with doing and appreciating sweet little gestures for one another. My hone emptying the dishwasher or making the bed gets me every time.
A heart in your Cream of Wheat? That is so cute! Sorry for the Doodlebops being a joke! I founded the Associated Pissy Press to make mommy bloggers laugh! Thanks for stopping by!
