Welllll, that was fun. Nothing like baring yourself to the internet. Feels a little like uploading a Dropshots of me dancing nekkid. Just a wee bit vulnerable. Thanks to those of you who left caring comments.
I've been mulling around ideas to make the summer pass smoothly and in a fun way for the kids while keeping the unmedicated issues of mine in check. I finally came to the opinion that I would need to structure our week a little better to keep from being swept away by household overwhelm and the general blah that tends to get out of control. You know, spread out household tasks more evenly, plan certain days for fun, etc. Then my cousin Brooke told me (and the rest of her blog readers) about Flylady. She's taken many of the suggestions there and is finding them to be very helpful in everyday life with two little kids while working part-time. You should go read it, very practical advice.
So my goal today is to sit down and map out a weekly schedule as a guideline for getting the household stuff done regularly which will prevent pile-up, and a few days or afternoons where we plan to go to the park for lunch or do a special outing just for the kids' enjoyment. Hopefully these things will minimize the anxiety and down days for me and keep us all moving in a fun, purposeful direction this summer.
Here's to new ideas! Thanks, Brooke.

My favorite verse has become I Peter 5:7 - go look it up, I'll wait! I cannot be all I think I should be to all those who expect it. But no matter where I am on any day, or moment for that matter, HE cares for me more than anyone in this world. That truth has carried me (sometimes only 15 mins at a time - then I'd have to "re-cast"!) through some really hurtful things over the past few years!
Because He cares so much, my heart has been able to forgive - and that has lifted such a load!
By the way - if you don't get through your list for each day, that's ok too! It is certainly "job security", and it's so much more fun to play with the kids!! Blessings!! R
Thanks, R.
Weekly penciling things in totally works for me. Just spending a little time everyweek organizing makes things smoother and gets you looking forward to what comes tomorrow. I find it helps in multitasking too. It causes me a lot less stress and knowing that I've plotted out things leaves me less anxiety!
YAY!
Thanks fo the props cuz!
Durning the summers I crack the whip all morning and come one o'clock, we bail on the housework and hit the city pool. Flylady and I have a love/hate relationship. Right now we are "taking some time apart." She has some great ideas though. You can do anything for 15 minutes. (Especially kick up your feet and drink a frapp!)
Good luck Karen. You guys will have a GREAT summer.
Consistency should also help you cope with being of the meds. I know that when I have weined myself off my anti-depress meds before, if I make a habit of going to be and getting up at the same time, having meals at the same time and getting regular exercise (like a nice walk) it goes a long way to help with the withdrawls. Keep up the good work. You're doing great from the outside looking in! :o)
I think I need to try this flylady stuff.
Everyone raves about it.....
I was going to email you about the quiet book thing... but have not been able to find your email address again.
Anyway. It is a pattern and the one I have I can't find online.
There are patterns online, but I didn't like any of them enough to pass on a link. If you want the one that I have, there is an address.....
I will be posting pics of it soon!
Hang in there!
I found that Flylady really worked well for me when I was a SAHM. Now that I'm working full-time, I just do what I can when I can. I used to be pretty rigid with my chores, but since I have to have my little guy in preschool full-time, I feel like my evenings are more well spent if I spend time with him, rather than busting my butt to get the house cleaned. Things are still tidy, just not spotless, but the time spent with him is time I'd never get back, so it's totally worth it!
I do know when I was home with him though, I really needed that routine of cleaning and a fun time schedule!
Happy Summer! Yay!
I have to put in a good word for routine too, especially in the summer when the kids don't always have structured activities. We usually have a library day and a park day to look forward to, but most important is just having a daily routine, even a simple one. Beleive it or not, vacations and having house guests can be very hard for me just becuase things get off track. Good luck and enjoy your summer!
The flylady routine seems pretty interesting..I looked into it from your link...I signed up. MY sink is still not shining but I want it to be and I am thinking about getting it there...
still praying for you....and the bump...daily
